Posted 1/7/08: Happy
New Year to all! Hope it is a good one and that you are
successful with your New Year's resolutions. We apologize for the
down-time on the website. Apparently the valdschmertz on the host
site failed to corrombulate with our perambulator board when the New
Year changed over on Greenwich Mean Time. Hopefully it will be
dependable now.
You've probably heard that we were shut out of the Longhorn Meet in
Austin. It filled up very quickly. We'll have lots of
changes to the January practice schedule, mostly due to that.
Please check the calendar often to get the updates. We're pretty much back to our normal school-year schedule.
The remaining meets of the Short Course season are:
Feb 1- 3 Eastlake Tiger Sharks meet at Tigua: no information yet
Feb 1- 3 COPS meet in Dallas: information on the
meets page; this meet has "A" qualifying times. Please note the
entry deadline has been moved to Jan 8th.
Feb 22- 24 Border Championships at Tigua: this is
the "big daddy" of the swim meets for most of us - what we've been
training for all year; information will be posted as soon as it's
available.
Mar 6- 9 TAGS state championships in Dallas: for those
extremely hard workers with TAGS qualification times; info
available on the meets page.
Posted 1/25/08: Where does the time go?
Didn't we just drink a toast to the new year? Now
we're wrapping up our Short Course Season. Now is the time to put
your all into your training regimen.
Good luck to those of you who are testing your mettle with the Time
Trials in Las Cruces this weekend. We hope you get what you want
out of it ... whether it's that elusive "A" or TAGS time or you just
need the venue to get an inspired "practice" meet in.
Best of luck to
Coach Dow and his EP High team at their District meet this weekend.
They had a great meet at Lubbock a couple weeks ago. We're
all rooting for a repeat at least. Go get 'em, Gaby! We're
so excited for you and very proud of you and Dow. We're rooting
for Paula and Marcela at the Districts, too. SWIM FAST!! We know you'll make us and El Dorado very proud.
Congratulations to Faith on her fabulous showing
at Loretto's Districts last weekend in San Antonio. She
earned a 2nd Place in her division for the 500 free and a 1st
(Woohoo!!) in her division for her 100 back. And in the same
meet, Simone finished 3rd in both the 500 free and 100 breast.
Congratulations and we are sure proud of you both. Next
stop... the
State Meet back in San Antonio in a couple of weeks.
Congratulations also to Maddie and Victoria on their performances
at the Longhorn New Year's Classic last weekend. Maddie got
FIRSTS in the 400 IM, 100 breast, 200 breast and 100 back, and a few
other 2nds and 3rds. Victoria made finals in nearly everything
she swam and picked up a couple more TAGS times. Way to go!!
Border Champs (the LSC championship Tournament) will be Feb 21st thru
24th. Each team is responsible for running one session.
WETT has been "awarded" the Sunday morning slot. We will
need to provide Hospitality, Timers, Safety Marshall, Clerk of Course,
Timing Console operations, and Scoring Computer... but NOT
CONCESSIONS!!! Think about where your talents will best place
you. We'll be in touch.
Following is the remaining Short Course calendar. Check out the MEETS page for particulars.
Jan 25-26 LCAT Time Trials (NMSU)
Feb 1- 3 Eastlake Tiger Sharks (Tigua)
Feb 1- 3 COPS meet (Dallas)
Feb 21- 24 Border Championships (Tigua) Information will be posted as soon as it's
available.
Mar 6- 9 TAGS State Championships (Dallas)
Posted 2/4/08: February is here already? What a fast-paced year! So much has happened and much more upcoming. We're a little behind on the reporting of our meets.
We congratulate Coach Dow for his EP High showing at the District Meet
in January. We are all so happy for you and so very proud of
you, Coach! His girls finished second in the District, winning
both the 200 Free and 200 Medley Relays and he received "Coach of the
Meet" for his girls' team. Way to go, Coach - we love you, man!!
Our dear Gaby led those relays and individually won her 200 IM and 100 back - setting District Meet Records on both!! Now wish them all luck at the Regional Meet this weekend in Lubbock. We're all so excited for you.
And over in District 2, Marcela got a 4th in her 100 fly at Districts,
and the 400 free relay with both Marcela and Paula took a 4th.
You must be very happy - we're sure happy for you!
Meanwhile, back at the ranch ... at the Eastlake Valentines Meet here
at Tigua, our WETT swimmers took home a lot of bling. First Place
High Point trophies were awarded to Mia, Carli, Branson and Anthony;
while Francesca took home a Second Place trophy, and Third Place
trophies were won by Jose G. and Enzo. Congratulations to you
all! You've been working so very hard.
We had a small contingency of "A" swimmers at the COPS Southwest
Meet in Dallas this past weekend, too. We'll report those
results as soon as available - but suffice it to say that much of the
luggage was overweight because of the bling earned there. WETT
made quite a showing and quite an impression on that city. We
also owe you the results of the TAPPS State Meet in San Antonio.
Busy, busy, busy!
The Border Championship Meet is Feb 21st thru
24th and entries are due today, Tuesday!
Sorry for the short notice - this is an unusually early
date they've requested entries. And those of you in Coach Dow's
groups need to be particularly attentive to this since he'll be out of
town this week. Also, a reminder that WETT is responsible for
meet operations on the Sunday morning session. We will
need to provide Hospitality, Timers, Safety Marshall, Clerk of Course,
Timing Console operations, and Scoring Computer. A list will be
circulated to register your desired contribution - volunteering your
time or a beverage purchase. We often need your help and always
appreciate it.
Following is the remaining Short Course calendar. Check out the MEETS page for particulars.
Feb 21- 24 Border Championships (Tigua)
Mar 6- 9 TAGS State Championships (Dallas)
Posted 2/6/08: We
need to recognize the wonderful results of our swimmers at the COPS
Southwest Classic in Dallas this past weekend. WETT finished TENTH among 43 teams - and that's with only 12
swimmers. The teams finishing ahead of us ranged in size from 28
to 113. Highlights included Mariano picking up a couple of AA
times; Caris earned 2 TAGS
times; Susie made finals in nearly everything she swam, Victoria and
Ivy made a couple of finals, Ivy dropped in 6 of 7 races and
earned her first 2 TAGS times; Shanny earned finals and medals in all 7 races (mostly SECONDS);
Ilse was a fireball, swam several finals and earned a couple of
AAA times (she's only 8!) Victor made finals in everything he
swam, including a FIRST and 2 SECONDS; and Maddie - WHOA!! Maddie finished FIRST in 6 of 7 races, earning T16 times in ALL of them and setting multiple MEET RECORDS. Of course that was HIGH POINT material! Congrats and thank you all for such hard work and dedication - and THANK YOU COACH RAGS for what you give us: your time, your energy, your vision and your inspiration.
In San Antonio at the STATE TAPPS Meet, Faith earned a THIRD in both her 100 back and 500 free, while Simone finalled in both her 500 free and 100 breast. Congratulations girls!!!
Following is the remaining Short Course calendar. Check out the MEETS page for particulars.
Feb 21- 24 Border Championships (Tigua)
Mar 6- 9 TAGS State Championships (Dallas)
Posted 2/16/08: We
wish we could have seen the wonderful showing of Coach Dow's El Paso
High team at the Regional's last weekend in Lubbock.
Congratulations to Dow and to our Gaby! The girls' relay
(with Gaby) got a first place in the 200 medley relay and Gaby got first place in both her 200 IM and 100 back, again setting Regional Meet Records. Yowza! Next weekend, Coach, Gaby, and the girls travel to Austin for the State High School Meet! Swim fast! - and then come home to us.
Border Champs is
just a week away. Let's all get focused and ready these last few
days of practice. Then SWIM FAST!!!! Make your coach proud,
make your parents proud - and most importantly, make yourself proud!
Posted 2/29/08: What
a great performance from all the swimmers at the Border Championship
last weekend! Hope it was as much fun as it looked and hope you
are all very proud. We'll report on the results and acknowledge
the standouts when we get "corrected" results from Border. Thank
you all for your work on Sunday to make our session a success.
Let's all wish the best for our TAGS contingency heading to Dallas for
the State Age Group Championship next weekend. You're all already
winners. These swimmers have qualified to swim at TAGS:
Ilse, Naomi, Ivy, Maddie, Victoria, Olivia, Caris, Faith, Syd,
Susie, Shanny, Mariano, Victor, Sam, Manny, Chase, Will and Anthony.
Wow!!

heading to the Frogs for the summer. Have fun and we'll see you
in the Fall.

A
USA Swimming "Swimposium" will be held for Border at the Armijo Pool
Complex on Saturday, April 26th. There will be presentations for
parents, for coaches, for officials and for the swimmers. Details

The 2nd annual WETT
Bowlathon is shaping up very nicely. It's our biggest fundraiser
of the year and will be held October 19th at Fiesta Lanes.
For last minute team entries, see Monica. Hope
you're doing well selling raffle tickets. We've got lots of
fabulous gifts to be won. If you need any more tickets or have
another donation, contact Suze. For general questions, contact Nancy or Rocio. Thank you to all who have served on a committee, and thank you to all who have obtained donations. This will be great fun for all, and so rewarding. Wait until you see what your hard work accomplishes!
Our next meet will be the SWAT Swimming Fiesta on October 25th & 26th at Tigua.
WeTT has 51 entries. Deck entries are also available.
The Texas All-Star Meet will be held in Houston on November 8-9.
The Meet invite can now be found on the MEETS page. This meet is for Border's
select team of 11 to 14 year olds. Applications can be downloaded here and are due to Border by October 15th.
Posted 9-21-08: There's
a lot going on in the next month or so! Next weekend (September
26-28th) is the LCAT Fall Classic at NMSU. Good luck to all the
WETT swimmers competing.
The first Del Norte meet of the year will be October 4th at Tigua.
The meet invite can be found on the Meets page. Entries
should already be in to Coach Ragland. We hope all the new
swimmers to WETT will try this meet. It's an excellent one to cut
your teeth on. It's also the first big opportunity for you
parents to put in your needed volunteer hours. If you haven't
offered your time yet, it's not too late. Contact Cindy at seeacrane@sbcglobal.net
to find out where you can put your talents to good use. You'll
also be asked to help contribute supplies for Hospitality and
Concessions. Be on the lookout for an email listing needed items.
I'm sure the kids especially are all excited about the 2nd annual WETT
Bowlathon. It will be on October 19th at Fiesta Lanes.
You'd better hurry and get your teams together and entered - the
deadline is September 30th. Feel free to recruit ringers.
There's a lot of pride on the line here - not to mention fun,
food and friends. You'll have the opportunity to win great gifts
and gift certificates in the raffle. And there will be trophies
for you hardcore bowler types. Contacts for the Bowlathon are:
team registration - Monica
raffle donations - Suze
general questions: Nancy or Rocio
This is our biggest fundraiser - let's make it a great success!
The SWAT meet will be held on October 25th & 26th at Tigua.
The meet docs are available on the Meets page and entries are due
to Coach by October 2nd.
This year's All-Star Meet will be held in Houston on November 8-9.
Meet details are not yet known. This meet is for Border's
select team of 11 to 14 year olds who have achieved certain time
standards in numerous events (the equivalent of at least 6 "A" times).
An application can be downloaded here or found on the Border website, and must be submitted to Coach Ragland and then Border by October 15th.
It's still a little ways away, but the Longhorn Aquatics November
Unclassified meet in Austin will be November 14-16. To assure our
spot in this meet, entries are due on October 3rd. Again, the
meet invite is available on the Meets page. Feel free to ask a
veteran parent if you're curious about attending an out-of-town meet.
We can't fail to mention that there will be a second Del Norte meet snuck in there on November 1st.
Posted 8/31/08: Welcome
to all of our new families. And welcome to our new Coach Nicole.
Our short course season officially starts tomorrow, August 25th.
Coach Ragland's groups begin practice at Memorial Pool.
Coaches Dow and Nicole will begin after Labor Day, on Tuesday,
September 2nd at Radford Pool.
Bear with us as we start the new season - each year brings us new
challenges in obtaining premium pool time, so our practice schedule is
subject to updates (mainly Coach Ragland's groups). Please
consult the calendar regularly. Our upcoming meet schedule will
be posted shortly. The first meet will be the LCAT Fall
Classic Sept 26th thru 28th.
If you didn't get a handbook, the updated one will soon be available online.
Posted 7/28/08: Woohoo! WETT turned in a fabulous performance at TAGS this year. Our swimmers earned a TAGS Flag
- AGAIN! for being in the top 10 out of 50 teams competing (most
so much larger). Way to go guys!! We are so proud to have
several STATE CHAMPIONS in our ranks. Victor was the HIGH POINT
winner for 10 and under boys - in the entire STATE OF TEXAS!! He
is the STATE CHAMPION in the 200 IM, 50 fly and 50 free. Our dear
Shanny is the STATE CHAMPION in the 200 fly, 200 free (setting a TAGS
record), 200 back, 400 free and 100 back! Maddie is the STATE
CHAMPION in the 200 back! And last but not least, Will is STATE
CHAMPION in the 200 IM, 100 fly, 400 IM, 100 breast (setting a TAGS
record), and the 200 breast (again setting a TAGS record)! Well, I'm
exhausted! I can't forget to mention that our youngest swimmers
really put WETT on the map. Ilse and Victoria each made multiple
finals, usually the only 9 year olds there, with Ilse bringing home a
2nd and a 3rd place medal. We're amazed.
Time for some much needed rest. Thank you swimmers, parents and
especially coach! Stay tuned for our next activities and be sure
to catch the Olympic action in a couple weeks for some inspiration.
Posted 7/26/08: Well,
Border Champs this year was a bust! I know it was a giant letdown
for most of us. I'm sorry for all the work and preparation and no
opportunity to shine. Thank you all for your help, contributions
and readiness to pitch in where needed. A special thanks to Coach
Dow for stepping up when we really needed him - and for all his work to try to make the meet come together.
Meanwhile, at our
Big Dance in Austin, WETT swimmers are all putting in great
performances. We're seeing many, many best times - you all must
be thrilled! Some of the high points to report: Ilse has a
2nd (100 fly) and a 3rd (200 IM) place; Shanny has a 2nd (200 IM) and FOUR FIRST PLACE MEDALS (200
fly, 200 free - **a TAGS record, 200 back and 400 free); Maddie has 2
3rds (200 IM & 400 IM) and a 1st (200 back); Victor has 2 FIRSTS
(200 IM & 50 fly), 2 2nds (100 free & 200 free) and a 3rd (400
free); and Will has FOUR FIRST PLACE MEDALS (200 IM, 100 fly, 400 IM and 100 breast - **a TAGS record).
Posted 7/20/08: This
is a very exciting time for all of us - the Championships! The
butterflies are here for many - because it's the time to show what
you're made of. Coach has given you the tools and set you up for
success. Now, dig deep inside and use what God gave you.
WETT is sending 19 swimmers to TAGS this summer. This is so fabulous and rewarding for our team! Congratulations
to Ilse, Maddie, Victoria, Andrea, Faith, Syd, Danielle, Shanny,
Mariano, Victor, Alex, Manny, Chase, Michael, Will, Enzo, and Anthony
for achieving their individual TAGS times and additionally Elizabeth,
Branson and David for relays. You know you are all winners
already! We know you'll do your best and make yourselves proud.
The rest of the WETT team competing at Border Champs are poised
for great things. Your task is no different. We're all
rooting for each swimmer to swim the best they ever have.

EPAP Long Course meet is going on at Ascarate. Good Luck to all
who are swimming and those trying for their last minute TAGS qualifying

Congratulations
to all who swam at the TX Open in Austin last weekend. It's
always such a fun meet for our families. Syd earned a whopping 9
"best times" stars, Enzo earned 7, and Ivy, Sam, Danielle and Kat each
earned
6. I think they like that pool! And there were quite a few
first place finishes by Andrea, Ilse, Shanny, Maddie, Branson and
Victor.
We have a record number of swimmers qualifying for TAGS this year! Great job!! Entries are due to Coach on Monday.

6/24/08: In spite of many
weary, sluggish swimmers, WETT had many highs in the Desert
Sharks meet this past weekend. High point trophies were
awarded to Andrea, Branson, Ilse, Victor, Shanny, Faith (all
FIRST PLACE); Ivy, Michael, Syd (Second
Place), Victoria,
Mariano, Maddie and Anthony (Third
Place).
CONGRATULATIONS! The 13-14 girls relay team of Faith,
Syd, Maddie and Caris set TWO BORDER RECORDS! - including a 24

SECONDS!! We are so proud to
see WETT swimmers in the record books - yet again. Individual
Border Records were broken by Shanny
- 3 of them!(100 fly - her own record, the 800 free, AND THE 100 free!

breast). In addition, Meet Records were set by Victor,

Girls Relay of Ilse, Victoria, Ivy & Carli (2), 10&U
Boys Relay of Victor, Branson, David & Enzo, and 11-12 Boys

for your names to be in the DSSC meet program next year.
Two-a-day
practices this week are Wednesday and Thursday.
EPAP
entries were due YESTERDAY - did you forget (like I did)?
Next
up is the TX Open in Austin - 4th of July weekend. Check
the calendar soon for practice changes for next week.

6/15/08: Please make sure
to check the calendar often. There have been so many
changes. This week's 2nd
practices are Monday and Wednesday.
Meet invites for the remaining meets are on the MEETS
page. Entries for EPAP are due next Monday, 6-23.
The Desert Sharks meet is this weekend. Good luck to all
who are swimming. You should have received coach's
entries list for the Texas Open starting 7- 4. Please
double-check for accuracy. Make sure you've told
Merridith of your hotel plans. Also, Longhorn Aquatics
will be limiting the number of entries in the longest
races. Please keep posted for the psych sheet (after the
23rd) to make sure your swimmers have gotten in the 400 free,
the 400 IM and the 1500 free. There will be a short
window of 12 hours to make an alternate selection.
As
always, the DSSC Fathers Day Meet includes a family
relay. So far, we have only 3 entries: Andrea and
family, Francesca and family and Ivy and family. There's
a lot of trash talk going on already - don't miss out on the
fun!
As
you've probably seen, Marcela has a diploma under her
belt. Did you realize she's our FIRST
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE!!??
And in this Sunday's paper the All-City Swim Teams were
announced. Yay, Gaby made First Team! - Faith made
Second Team and Marcela made Honorable Mention!!
Congratulations to Coach Dow - a few more of his high school
swimmers received Honorable Mention!Th

among teams of much larger size. Aren't we all so
excited with what our children are doing?!

the shining star of this meet and we are all so proud of him! - setting

5/26/08: The
long course season is coming along swimmingly (yuk yuk!)
Congratulations to all who competed in the SWAT meet last week at
Tigua. We had many high point trophies come home in our
cars. Kudos to Halie, Branson, Ivy, Shanny (all FIRST PLACE), Victor and Noah (Second Place), and Andrea, Cole and Faith (Third Place).
The
Cactus Classic in Scottsdale/Tempe is still going on (Monday evening).
A few of us are just trickling home. It was not your
typical Phoenix weather - cold and rainy Friday and Saturday
(bleah!), but it warmed up for Sunday and Monday. The swimming
performances weren't altogether typical either, or predictable - but it
was a good experience for all. Victor, for one, really shined at
this meet. A lot of first place medals and even meet records came
out of his swims. Way to go, Victor!
Check the meets
page for all important invites, meet documents and Zone applications.
There is info for the Desert Sharks Fathers Day Meet, Texas
Open in Austin, TAGS, and Southern Zones. Specific details and
deadlines will be sent out in the next few days.
Once again, PLEASE check
the practice calendar OFTEN. Times and locations for this week
and next have been juggled as needed - your initial May calendar is not
correct. We're practicing early morning only this week - except Saturday.

5/8/08: Well,
we have our first long course meet under our belts and WOW! WETT
came out of Las Cruces with the 1st Place Team trophy. Even Coach
Rags is very pleased! Must have been all of that hard work that
accounts for those results. Congratulations to high point trophy
winners Mia, Josh, Andrea, Branson, Ilse, Syd, Maddie, and Will (all
FIRST place); Halie, Victoria, Victor, Michael, Faith and Anthony (all
Second Place); Carli, Ivy, Alex, Manny and Caris (all Third Place).
In fact, WETT swimmers brought home 19 of the 35 high point
trophies awarded. Manny must have had his Wheaties because he
swam the 1500 in the 3rd fastest time in the NATION for 11-12s.
The 10&under boys medley relay of Victor, Branson, Enzo and
David earned a TAGS time - the first a few of them have experienced.
Noah swam the 1500 for the first time and came out with a AA
time. Maddie swam her first meet as a teenager and came out with
the high point trophy for 13-14's.
Our next meet is the SWAT Sprint Invitational, May 16-18 at Tigua.
The meet documents are available on the Meets page. You
should have confirmation of your entries. Good Luck to all!
The meet invite for the Cactus Classic in Scottsdale is also available on the Meets page.
A belated welcome to new team members Alex, Andrea, Michael, Halie and Zack. We're glad you're a part of our family.
Please
check the practice calendar OFTEN. We've gotten bumped out of a
few of the pool times we committed to, so the practice locations may
change from what you've got on your calendar.
